JESS APO
Yoga & Meditation

Jess Apo has always been a teacher, first completing a Masters of Teaching and certification, she began her career as an elementary educator for Montgomery County Public Schools. She turned to yoga to manage the daily stress in her life and discovered her true passion. After practicing yoga, Jess felt compelled to bring teaching and yoga together as her full-time career, bringing peace and expansion of self she experienced to others. A daily meditator, she is a lover of movement and stillness alike. Powerful cueing and physical alignment are skills she teaches so that her students understand vibrational energy. Jess is highly skilled at dynamic sequencing and connecting to the individual student’s needs. She uses Yogic philosophy, personal experience and hands-on adjusting as tools for transformation in her classes. Jess loves teaching many styles of yoga and enjoys watching transformations in her students on and off the mat. She leads yoga retreats all over the world, taking her students to exotic locations to immerse themselves in yoga. Jess has created an original 85-hour prenatal teacher training from her vast teaching experiences including teaching prenatal yoga while she was pregnant with her children. She is so grateful for the practice that has changed her life in countless ways.

Nana Edu is a DMV based dancer and choreographer that sometimes dabbles in acting. He received a Bachelors in Dance from the University of Maryland, College Park and trained at Montgomery College. He worked with several local choreographers/companies like Breathe Dance Project, Ronya-Lee Anderson, Shannon Quinn, Christina Robson and many others.

Angela Gonzales is a passionate Latin artist. Born and raised in La Victoria lima Peru. Accustomed as a child on music and arts, surrounded by the sounds of her father's congas from her crib and motivated by her mom’s creative art. Angela's profound passion and connection to Afro Peruvian roots steam from her blood line. She left Peru in 1997 to come to United States for better opportunities and always dream to continue dancing and spreading her culture even though she was far from her mother land. She has proven love towards the growth of these traditions for young and old, from all over the world. Gonzales had danced Festejo (Afro Peruvian dance) and fitness at the Cherry Blossoms Festival in Washington D.C, Peruvian Embassy for the Around the world tour , Maryland sister state program, NBC Fitness Expo, and Puerto Rico, Loiza at the Bomba Dance graduation where she also played the Cajon peruano and received a certification on Afro Puerto Rican cultural dance by Taller N'Zambi. She has been teaching dance fitness and movement therapy in Maryland and looking forward to continue sharing her love, art and passion with the world.

Ms. Kimm’s has been teaching dance in the Washington D.C. area for over 30 years. Her ballet training and experience includes the Royal Academy of Dance, the Royal Ballet in London, the American Ballet Theater, and the Garden State Ballet. She was the owner/director of The Gaithersburg Academy of Dance for 15 years. She was selected as the Chairman of the Mid-Atlantic region of the Royal Academy of Dance. Ms. Kimm’s students have performed at Wolf Trap National Park, the Kennedy Center, and the White House, and are now members of American Ballet Theater, dancers on cruise ships, owners of studios, dance teachers and dance majors at various universities. Ms. Kimm’s main goal in her teaching is to instill a love for the art in all her students at all levels of training.

Deidra Squire is a native of Columbus, Ohio. She began dancing at the age of seven and discovered the power and beauty of the performing arts at a young age. Deidra earned a B.A. in Communications from Hampton University, where she was an honors student and a recipient of a presidential scholarship, a merit based academic scholarship. Deidra then earned a Juris Doctorate from the George Washington University School of Law. She is a licensed Maryland attorney. Throughout her life, Deidra has remained very involved in the performing arts both professionally and through volunteerism. She began producing shows at the age of 16 and began competing nationally in Humanities and Performing Arts as a sophomore in high school. Deidra has also been involved in nationwide oratorical competitions since she was in middle school. Deidra has taught students from the ages of 4 to 85. She has also taught homeless and at-risk students. Deidra Squire has been tap dancing for 29 years. She was trained at Ballet Met Dance Academy in Columbus, Ohio and Judy Conti Dance Academy in Youngstown Ohio. She founded Above Deck Tap Dance Ensemble at Hampton University. Above Deck Tap Dance Ensemble continues to be an official campus organization at Hampton University. Since relocating to the DMV, Deidra has taught tap dance at the Patricia M. Sitar Arts Center and the Program for Academic and Leadership Skills in Washington, DC. She has also taught at Impact Performing Arts, Momentum Dance and Fitness, C-Unit Dance Studio, Adagio Ballet, Body Moves, JMD Studio, Legacy Performing Arts, 5-6-7-8 Dance, Dance Makers Dance Studio, The Dance Academy of Virginia and many more. She also founded Rhythm&Soles, a percussive arts instruction organization, and she is a company and board member of SOLEdarity, an adult performance tap company in Washington, DC. Deidra also has experience in production, pageant coaching, poms, step, spoken word, oratory, and African dance and drumming. She was the founding coach of a step and cheerleading squad at National Collegiate Preparatory Public Charter School in Washington DC. Under her leadership, the team placed in a local competition within four months of formation. Deidra also served as the Artistic Director of S.W.A.G., a competitive step team in Washington, DC that won first place in the Junior Division of the Six Flags National Invitational Competition. As an active contributor to the arts community, Deidra believes in teaching “Poise, Professionalism, and Perfection,” and she firmly believes that performing arts are a powerful means of developing self-esteem and awareness in students of all ages.

Joshua Davis has been a performing songwriter for more than 20 years and has been a teaching artist much of that time and has honed an impressive range of skills – songwriter, bandleader, guitarist, and vocalist. He's taught at Interlochen Center for the Arts and Michigan State University's Community Music School as well as countless retreats, workshops and master classes all around the world. Since his appearance as a finalist on Season 8 of NBC’s “The Voice,” Joshua Davis has been churning out an album a year.

She has performed in the Washington, D.C. area and elsewhere as a soloist and accompanist and has published articles in several major newspapers and magazines. Before turning to music full time, she spent 25 years working for the Washington Star publication. She has Master of the Arts degree from American University, a Master of Arts in Journalism from the Pennsylvania State University, and a Bachelor of Arts in English from Grove City College. He is a Permanent Professional Nationally Certified teacher of Music in Piano, A Steinway Teacher, and Education Partner, a member of Music Teacher National Association and Kappa Tau Alpha honorary journalism fraternity.

Deonté Warren has most recently been seen on Broadway in Disney's Aladdin. He has performed internationally on cruise ships and in theme parks, and on the national and international Tours of Sister Act and Dream Girls. He can be heard on several Music Theatre International recordings such as High School Musicals 1 & 2 and has performed several concerts in New York City including his debut album Love, Essential recorded live at Feinstein's/54 Below. Deonté has taught out of his private voice studio working with singers of all levels from beginners to Broadway veterans. Deonté also taught at Saddle River Day School in New Jersey as a guest director for the musical and taught specialty classes in music and dance. He has taught masterclasses in New York City and Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee. Deonté earned his Bachelor of Music in Music Theatre with a Dance Minor at Belmont University in Nashville and is currently pursuing a Master of Music in Music Theatre Vocal Pedagogy at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Deonté is also a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing and is thrilled to work with the students of BlackRock Center for the Arts!

Natalia Vladimirova has 20 years of experience in music education. Natalia graduated from Novosibirsk Music College in Russia with a Diploma in Performing Artist and Violin Teacher. Then she graduated from the Novosibirsk Conservatory with Bachelor and master’s degrees in fine arts in Music. She worked for 15 years in the Opera and Ballet Theater in Novosibirsk and in the Symphony Orchestra as a member of the first violin group. After moving to America, Natalia began teaching private and group violin lessons and playing in concerts as a violin soloist and chamber player. She is currently a member of the Columbia Orchestra as a first violinist. She has also played with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.

Raised in Montgomery County, Maryland she attended the University of Maryland and Arizona State University where she earned a BA in Theatre Performance. She has multiple regional theatre credits and has worked at several professional theatres including, Olney Theatre Center, RoundHouse Theatre, Studio Theatre in Washington, DC and BlackRock Center for the Arts. Tiffany currently teaches for Montgomery County Public Schools in Special Education. She is also the Drama Club sponsor at John T. Baker Middle School and a member of the Damascus Theatre Company. When not on stage, Tiffany can be found writing, directing, managing, teaching, sewing costumes, or making props for any number of productions.

Madeleine Regina is a DC Based Director, Performance Artist, and Educator, whose work primarily focuses on issues of social equity. Her most recent projects include “Body.”, a devised production about the stories our physical forms carry, which she directed for the DC Fringe Festival. In addition, she was an assistant director for Flying V’s recent devised production, “Crystal Creek Motel”. She is currently directing an acting showcase with Matthew Corzine Studio and is working on a small production with the Center for Adoption Support and Education, helping to tell the stories of adopted children and their families. She also teaches with Imagination Stage and Theatre Lab in addition to her directing work with ArtStream. She absolutely loves sharing a creative space with people of all backgrounds and abilities!

Kelli Harrison is the Camp Director for BlackRock’s Sports Meets the Arts Camp held at the Maryland SoccerPlex. Kelli earned a Masters Degree in Art Education from Towson University. With more than 10 years of teaching experience, Kelli began her career in a Title 1 community and later teaching at a National Blue Ribbon school. Kelli Harrison is the Camp Director for BlackRock’s Sports Meets the Arts Camp held at the Maryland SoccerPlex. Kelli earned a Masters Degree in Art Education from Towson University. With more than 10 years of teaching experience, Kelli began her career in a Title 1 community and later teaching at a National Blue Ribbon school. She has influenced hundreds of students from all walks of life. J.M. Littleton is a graduate of the Maryland Institute College of Art, BFA, MAT. She studied figurative sculpture for two and a half years under well-known sculptor, Tylden Streett, at MICA. It was during this time that she discovered her love for realism. J.M. has more than 26 years of teaching experience at the college level. She is an award-winning artist, international exhibitor, and signature Member of the Baltimore Watercolor Society. J.M. is frequently sought out for workshops, lectures, and as a judge for her expertise, realistic style, transparent washes, as well as knowledge and use of color theory. She is the founder of the Littleton School of Art, www.littletonart.com, in Towson, Maryland and has been recognized among as one of the “Best Painting and Drawing Teachers” by Expertise.com. J.M.’s work has been featured in the Baltimore Watercolor Society’s Mid-Atlantic Juried Exhibition, San Diego Watercolor Society International Juried Exhibition, American Watercolor Society’s International Juried Exhibition in New York, and the National Watercolor Society’s National Juried Show in Los Angeles. Anjali Wells received her bachelor's degree in Fine Arts and Master of Art Education from the University of Maryland, College Park. Anjali also has a Post Graduate Certificate in Equity and Excellence in Education from McDaniel College. She has been a Highly Qualified Art Educator for Montgomery County Public Schools since 2013. In 2013, she developed an arts-based mindfulness program for at-risk elementary students which proved to reduce the number of office infractions of participants. Anjali was the site coordinator and lead teaching artist for Explore, Create, Connect at Briggs Chaney Middle School, a program made possible by a Trawick Foundation Grant that collaborated with Arts on the Block, Impact Silver Spring, and Clancyworks Dance company to provide struggling students with arts based community engagement. The program proved to improve participant’s self-esteem, a sense of belonging in the school community, and ultimately their attendance and GPA. In 2019, Anjali worked as a contributor to the Smithsonian Freer Sackler Museum's Freeman project writing curriculum resources for the gallery’s Chinese art collection. Additionally, she provides professional development annually through the Maryland Art Education Association. Anjali currently serves on the MCPS Fine Arts curriculum team.

Joe Yablonsky teaches digital and film photography classes. His teaching philosophy is to give every student a strong foundation of the technical and creative considerations that must be addressed prior to pressing the shutter release button. He encourages every student to bring their own personality and individuality into the process and to obtain photographs that are uniquely their own. Joe studied mechanical engineering at Penn State and has built communications spacecraft at Lockheed Martin and hardware for the Hubble Space Telescope servicing missions at NASA. He now specializes in gelatin silver photographs of public sculpture and architecture that have been shown in numerous solo exhibitions and are collected internationally. All photos are hand printed on fiber paper using a traditional darkroom and are selenium toned to increase their archival permanence. His photographs can be seen at www.joeyablonsky.com.
