ADMINISTRATION

Marketing Manager (Full-time, 40 hours per week)

The marketing manager will oversee the development and implementation of strategic marketing and communication plans for BlackRock Center for the Arts, ensuring that all initiatives reflect our core values and mission to enhance community engagement through the arts. The marketing manager will collaborate with various departments to elevate brand visibility, support outreach efforts, and enhance audience experiences. Key Responsibilities: The marketing manager will: - Collaborate with stakeholders to create and implement a strategic marketing plan that aligns with BlackRock Center’s mission and growth objectives. - Support and promote brand strategies to enhance visibility and engagement with diverse audiences, ensuring consistency in messaging across all platforms. - Collaborate on the design and development of promotional materials and digital content that reflects BlackRock Center’s mission and branding. - Assist in developing an annual communication plan to convey a cohesive narrative around BlackRock Center’s programs and services. - Manage the marketing budget, ensuring effective allocation of resources and adherence to financial goals. - Work closely with internal teams to ensure marketing initiatives and messaging are consistent and support organizational goals. - Track and analyze sales data, using metrics to identify trends, assess the effectiveness of marketing efforts on revenue, and develop insights to inform future strategies. - Collaborate with the development team to support fundraising initiatives, enhance the membership program, and secure sponsorships. This includes creating targeted communication strategies to engage donors, sponsors, and members effectively. - Execute targeted outreach efforts through social media, email campaigns, and community partnerships to grow BlackRock Center’s audience. - Mentor and support interns and staff in marketing efforts, particularly in social media management and content creation. Who You Are: At BlackRock Center, we strive to create a welcoming workplace that inspires curiosity. An ideal individual lives BlackRock’s values daily: care deeply, trust the process, and embrace equity and inclusivity in every interaction. - 4-8 years of experience in a marketing and communications role, preferably within the arts or nonprofit sector - BA/BS in marketing, communications, or a related field; master’s degree preferred. - Strong strategic thinking and project management abilities - Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. - Effective written, verbal, and presentation communication skills. - Understanding of and a genuine interest in the arts, cultural diversity, and community engagement - Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with web management software (e.g., Wix, WordPress) - Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) is a plus. - Familiarity with email marketing platforms (e.g., Constant Contact, MailChimp) - Ability to translate messaging to diverse audiences and apply writing styles appropriate for different formats - A flexible schedule, with the ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed. - A positive attitude, cultural sensitivity, and a collaborative spirit - Exemplify a commitment to BlackRock Center’s mission to bring performing and visual arts experiences to diverse audiences and to provide accessible opportunities to engage in the arts PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS  The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Assistant Technical Director (Full-time)

The assistant technical director performs intermediate technical and administrative work, aiding in logistical support for performances, rehearsals, changeovers, classes, camps, maintenance, and other events at BlackRock Center for the Arts. This position uses a proactive approach, requiring both technical skills to support a production and customer service/interpersonal skills to work with non-technical users and clients. The Assistant Technical Director reports to and assists the Technical Director in evaluating and implementing technical requests, and providing support in a safe and practical manner, with meaningful impact. The work is accomplished with moderate physical demands under safe working conditions. The candidate is responsible for limited supervision of part-time staff. Key Responsibilities: With advisement and supervision from the technical director, the assistant technical director will:  - Assist with day-to-day operations at BlackRock Center, including, but not limited to, changeovers, rehearsals, performances, rentals, special events, camps, classes, and maintenance.   - Complete, review, and distribute Technician Event Reports for rehearsals, performances, and events.   - Evaluate, coordinate, and implement user group technical requests  - Design, install, and operate audio and lighting support for clients and user groups at BlackRock Center.  - Lead work crews of part-time staff and/or volunteers during load-ins, strikes, events, changeovers, etc.   - Assist the technical director and director of operations & facilities on tracking capital needs and improvements for all BlackRock Center performance spaces and their necessary equipment and infrastructure.  - Assist with maintaining, repairing, and replacing all lighting, lighting control, audio, audio control, projection, projection control, rigging, and all other technical and theatrical equipment.   - Maintain and update inventory information for the BlackRock Center production department.   - Ensure that all lighting, audio, and projection equipment is stored and organized safely and efficiently.  - Work with the technical director and director of operations & facilities to determine purchasing needs and to acquire necessary items for venue operations.  - Meet with clients and user groups to determine requirements for technical support, while providing excellent customer service.   - Act as technical director in their absence.  - Perform other duties as required.  - Assist with scheduling, supervision, and training of part time technical staff Who You Are: At BlackRock Center, we strive to create a welcoming workplace that inspires curiosity. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS  - Any combination of training and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from high school, supplemented by courses in theatrical production  - Three years of experience in the professional field, including event technology, venue management, and crew supervision  - Personal transportation and valid driver’s license preferred.   - Knowledge of theatrical production, design, and build processes   - Knowledge of best practices in theater and event production   - Working knowledge of theatre lighting, projection, and sound equipment, including use and repair  - Strong critical thinking and proactive problem-solving ability  - Strong organizational skills and detail-oriented approach to planning   - Knowledge of drafting programs (AutoCAD, Vectorworks, Drafty app, LXFree etc.) desirable, but not required  - Knowledge of QLab is desirable, but not required  - Ability to work well with a team, both as a lead and in a supporting role  - Ability to lead part-time personnel and volunteers of varying skill and experience levels  - Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, holidays, and weekends as required  - Ability to adapt to change, trouble-shoot, and make decisions while maintaining a calm demeanor  - A willingness to take direction from multiple managers or team members, as well as having a good understanding of with whom to advise/consult in the event of conflicting direction  - Effective verbal and written communication skills  - Exemplify a commitment to BlackRock’s mission to bring performing and visual arts experiences to diverse audiences and providing accessible opportunities to engage in the arts   PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS  The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. We also provide up to $1200 towards deductibles and co-pay annually. - This position earns vacation pay at 120 hours per year (3 weeks) - 12 paid holidays - Flexible hours - All employees are covered by Maryland’s Sick and Safe Leave Policy. EDUCATION 

Teaching Artist (Independent Contractor, Hours Vary)

BlackRock is currently seeking talented & motivated individuals for our seasonal classes, grant funded Outreach Programs, special events, camps, and field trips that have teaching experience in any of the following disciplines: visual arts, music, theatre and/or dance. This part time role offers the opportunity to teach grant funded after school or camp day programs in BlackRock or at partner schools as well as seasonal classes, workshops, field trips and special events as needed at the center. This position serves as an independent contract role for BlackRock Center for the Arts. The teaching artist will develop programming that will engage youth and inspire love and appreciation for the arts. • Plan weekly lessons aligned with programming in their discipline including age appropriate developmental and pedagogical practice. • Introduce students to various techniques based on a theme or planned topic. • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that values each student's unique artistic abilities and ideas and provide constructive feedback and support to students as they explore and develop their artistic skills. • Consistently collaborate with BlackRock leadership and staff, including staff meetings as necessary. • Adhere to BlackRock policies to ensure consistency and quality of programming. • Travel to partnering schools at scheduled time. The Teaching Artist will implement safety protocols. • Will be knowledgeable of and adhere to all safety protocols. • Will be responsible for ensuring that students follow safety protocols. The Teaching Artist will Communicate with students' parents/guardians as well as with BlackRock Staff. • Communicate as necessary to student families • Demonstrate outstanding communication skills, using clear, concise, and professional language when interacting with others. The Teaching Artist will foster an environment of excellence and inclusion in a safe “arts-for-all" environment. • Participate as a member of the BlackRock community and will use their presence to engage the student families, staff, and community at large. • Will embrace teaching in a way that aligns to the BlackRock vision and mission. The Teaching Artist also will: • Adhere to budget allocation for demonstrations, class needs and tech. • Work closely with and understand facilities and proper usage and guidelines for instructional use. • Implement prepared lessons with fidelity. • Encourage and support vulnerability that accompanies trying something new. • Observe the peer culture to diagnose problems and implement solutions as necessary. • Follow procedures for handling all difficulties related to health, behavior, and other problems and report incidents. • Monitor and ensure appropriate student behavior and adherence to BlackRock guidelines and policies. • Handle emergency situations in conjunction with facilities, Patron Services, and the Director of Education by documented incident reporting. • Assess the overall program to see if there are any changes that need to be made for optimum functioning. • Other duties as assigned. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS • Bachelor's degree in an arts related field, or related certifications is strongly preferred • Previous experience planning, implementing, and providing arts instruction. • Familiarity with and deep knowledge of artistic techniques. • Detail-oriented with exceptional organizational and time management skills. • Ability to work independently and in teams. • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. • Agility to make modifications to adapt in changing work environment. Compensation and Benefits The salary for this position starts at $20 - $25 per hour for camps, and $20 - $60 per hour for seasonal classes, special events, Outreach, and field trips based on experience, credentials, programming and grant funding, etc. Hours are dependent on grant requirements, scheduling, etc.
