Note from the Director of Education

Jillian1 I am excited to start my position as Director of Education and Community Engagement here at the BlackRock Center for the Arts. As a lifelong resident of Montgomery County, Maryland, it brings me great pleasure to work in a community that is so diverse and exciting, yet so personally familiar.

I come to BlackRock with a background primarily in theatre arts, having worked in the education departments of Arena Stage, Shakespeare Theatre Company, Imagination Stage and, most recently, Round House Theatre, where I served for five years as Education and Outreach Program Manager. These past positions have been ideal training for engaging students of all ages in the arts. I earned my degree at Harvard Graduate School of Education with a focus on Arts Curriculum development inside and outside of the classroom and I am thrilled to bring my knowledge and experience to BlackRock.

I have big plans for Education at BlackRock! I plan to:

  • Bring a diverse array of classes and workshops to engage our community.
  • Listen to you – our families and students – to get a better sense of classes and events you would like to see here at BlackRock.
  • Provide professional development for our BlackRock teachers, as well as connect with teachers in the Montgomery County Public School community.
  • Find exciting ways to link our classes to our onstage and gallery programming.

My goal is for you and your family to enjoy high quality arts experiences in every aspect of what we do, from classes to performances to our stunning art exhibits. Again, I am thrilled to be here and I look forward to meeting you!
