Kelly Chauncey

Artistic Director

Kelly Chauncey is a product of The Howard University Children’s Theater & Playmakers Repertory Theater from 1978-1982. In 1983 he joined The Young Voices of Washington, DC, a Gospel Theater Ministry.


While in Middle School, he became the voice on the DC Walker Safety Films while simultaneously portraying himself in the weekly WETA FM Children’s show ”Songs Jumping In My Mouth” and a weekly Regular on WRC NBC’s “The Sunshine Store” Mr. Chauncey's foundation in and around Theater Arts was solidified early. He attended Howard University's Department of Theater Arts and later The Shenandoah University Theater Conservatory. He has studied under Clinton Carbon, Kelsie Collie, Mike Malone, Henri Edmonds, Vera Katz, Laverne Reed, Ottis Sallid, Dr. Linda Wharton Boyd,Ruby Dee & Ossie Davis as well as Debbie Allen & Phylicia Rashad.


Mr. Chauncey served as Artistic Director of Performing Arts at Dubose Fine Arts Studio in McKinney, Texas the Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County Florida and Assistant Director/Arts at Harmony Hall Regional Center with The Maryland National Capital Park & Planning Commission.


In 2015 he founded ANKH Repertory Theatre and established a Theater Arts Partnership with The City of Gaithersburg Maryland. Expanding the partnership to include The Finest Performance Foundation later that year they would jointly produce The Wiz. This partnership would continue for four years as they presented A Change Gon' Come, (which they previous toured to Penniburg, Hamburg and Berlin Germany) Black Nativity, Dreamgirls and StickFly.


Mr. Chauncey is no stranger to the stage himself, some of his performance credits include Rollin' With Stevens & Stewart The Source Theater 93'; Jungle Rot (Texas Premier) Plano Repertory Theater Plano Texas 99'; Stand Up Tragedy 1989-1990, Polk County 01'-02', Anthems: Culture Clash In The District 02'- 03' Arena Stage Washington, DC; and For Black Boys Who Considered Homicide When The Streets Were Too Much 05' Dad's Garage Theater Atlanta Georgia.


He has directed numerous plays and musicals and has a special appreciation for working with Teens and Young Adults. In 2019, he joined the NY based Rock and Roll Playhouse as an MC & Teaching Artist.
