ABOUT THE ARTIST:

“When I sit down to create something, I’m never thinking about the other people who may end up seeing my work. My main audience is, always and without fail, just myself. I create things that I would hope the 10-year-old version of myself would enjoy. That is to say, I don’t consider myself to be healing my inner child with these pieces, but rather, honoring my inner child. It’s very important for me to not take myself too seriously. Too quick are we as a species to discard our younger selves in exchange for someone more serious, cunning, hard. A lot of artists can attest that they find themselves subconsciously mimicking the facial expression of whoever it is they are drawing and I’m no exception. I create smiling creatures to make myself smile, too.”  — Pamela Garrido, 2023

Pamela Garrido is a Germantown-based artist with a background in video game design. After wearing a variety of different hats at BlackRock, she has grown into the position of Operational Specialist. When not at BlackRock, you can find Pamela working on her cryptid-inspired video game or drawing amphibians.
