About the Event

Welcome to the Outdoor Concert Series: come with friends to drink, socialize, bring a picnic, and enjoy a party with some Afrofunk performed by Chopteeth Afrofunk Big Band!

We will see you there on Saturday, September 9th at 7:00 PM at BlackRock Center for the Arts. Don't forget to mark your calendars and spread the word!

Our summer programming is always Rain or Shine! We keep a close eye on the forecast and will relocate indoors in the case of severe weather.

No outside drinks allowed. Food and drinks will be available for purchase, so come hungry and thirsty! Bring your most comfy blanket or lawn chair.

This free community event is made possible through the generosity of our patrons and supporters! Please consider making a financial contribution of any amount to support BlackRock's current and future programming.

Thank  you to our summer sponsors Wegmans and FirstEnergy for helping us to bring free programming to our community all summer long!

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Chopteeth Afrofunk Big Band explores the common groove between the funkiest, most hip-shakin’ West African beats and American popular music. At the core of Chopteeth’s sound is Afrobeat—a big-band funk, invented by Fela Kuti in 1970s Nigeria, that’s a spicy stew of modern jazz, Yoruba tribal music, and James Brown-inspired rhythms.

Chopteeth features original compositions along with updates of African dance classics, remaining true to the spirit of the music and its message. Band members step to the mic to serve up lyrics in seven languages. This 14-time Wammie-winning group is sure to have you on your feet with its infectious beats and robust instrumentation.
