Each year during the month of March, BlackRock celebrates Youth Art Month (YAM) by presenting exhibits featuring art by students from area schools. This year’s online exhibit features works by 56 student artists who attend elementary, middle and high schools located across Montgomery County. Participating K – 12 students, with the help of their families, submitted an image of an artwork they created during the current academic year.  The wide range of subjects and media on display — including drawings, paintings, collage, photography and digital art — represents a sampling of projects being created each school day by talented students in our community who are supported by their dedicated art teachers.

The theme for YAM this year is "Art Connects Us." Sponsored by the National Art Education Association and administered by The Council for Art Education, YAM is intended to emphasize the value of art education for all children and encourage support for quality school art programs. The goal of YAM is to provide a platform to direct attention to the valuable skills developed through the visual arts curriculum that are not possible in other subjects, including creative problem solving, divergent and critical thinking, as well as technical, communication and expressive skills.
