GERMANTOWN, Md. (April 8, 2020) – BlackRock Center for the Arts is proud to announce the opening today of the Upcounty Consolidation Hub for Community Needs, a temporary consolidation center for donated essential goods for communities in upper Montgomery County. As the primary receiving, inventory and consolidation hub, BlackRock has partnered with The David and Mikel Blair Family Foundation, Healthcare Initiative Foundation, Latino Health Initiative, and Nourish Now to create greater access to essential items for children, families and seniors impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Originally the site of award-winning art exhibitions, The Kay Gallery at BlackRock has been temporarily transformed into a space for consolidating and repackaging donated essential items that will be distributed to large communities and to homebound individuals.
“BlackRock has always felt the support of so many people in Upper Montgomery County,” said Lynn Andreas Arndt, Chief Executive Officer at BlackRock Center for the Arts. “In these challenging and uncertain times, it is important that we step forward and give back to the community that has generously supported BlackRock.”
The Upcounty Consolidation Hub for Community Needs is accepting donations of nonperishable food items, diapers (infant, toddler and adult), health care kits, toilet paper, and paper towels. This week only, the hub is also looking for donations of wrapped and nut-free Easter candy to fill donated Easter baskets that will be distributed to 300 children in Upper Montgomery County this Saturday.
The Upcounty Consolidation Hub for Community Needs at BlackRock will be open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. BlackRock is in the heart of Germantown Town Center at 12901 Town Commons Drive. Donated goods can be dropped off at the entrance to the parking lot off Town Commons Drive parking lot during operating hours and using safe social distancing practices.
