Dear Friends of BlackRock,
On the morning of my first day of work at BlackRock, I walked through the doors and was struck by the serene beauty in the silence of the Center. I learned quickly that the early morning serenity gives way to the joyful sounds of a performing arts center. As I write this: the sound of children taking piano lessons is harmonizing with the beat of the hip hop class and a young boy stands outside the ballet studio trying to get his sister’s attention. The art galleries are open, a corporate retreat is taking place on the terrace, and our technicians are conducting a sound check for the weekend performance. This is just a snapshot of BlackRock but these are the sights and sounds of our Center on any given day, all made possible by you.
BlackRock reflects its diverse community.
Every year more than 40,000 people walk through the doors of BlackRock to attend performances, take classes, and enjoy the galleries. They also come to BlackRock to celebrate special moments in their lives—weddings, baptisms, sweet 16 parties, quinceañeras, bar and bat mitzvahs, and memorial services for lives lost. This year more than 60 performances will take place—from country to rock, Celtic to jazz, and comedy to family shows—and every summer thousands of people enjoy our free concerts and festivals in our community spaces. Our reach extends beyond our walls with our BlackRock without Borders program that brings arts education to local schools for children for whom classes would be unattainable.
BlackRock counts on you.
Every performance, every class, every festival, every beautiful sound within these walls has been made possible by our community of supporters. As we approach the end of 2019, we ask that you consider BlackRock in your year-end giving plans. Your contribution will allow us to continue to offer diverse visual and performing arts programming, support local artists, provide quality education and camp programs that are affordable for our neighbors, and reach into the community to provide art to everyone, no matter their income.
Please join me in celebrating the arts and our community; take a class, visit our galleries, and come to a performance. Enjoy what you have helped make possible.
