ART DIRECTOR – 2020 Performing Arts Camp

BlackRock Center for the Arts in Germantown, MD engages the community to explore, experience and celebrate the arts. BlackRock is currently seeking a talented, motivated and experienced Art Director to lead set design for four camp sessions. Camp runs from June 22, 2020 through August 14, 2020, Monday-Friday, from 9:00 am – 3:30 pm. A mandatory staff training will be held on Thursday, June 18 from 9:00 am – 3:30 pm. BlackRock’s 2020 Performing Arts Camp Art Director will work alongside the Camp Director, Assistant Director, Dance Director, and Music Director to lead campers in creating props, backdrops, and sets for four short plays (one play for each of the four camp sessions) spanning the eight-week timeframe. Each two-week camp session culminates in a live performance. The Art Director will work with and supervise additional camp staff to ensure the safety of campers and Counselors in Training (CITs) while engaging campers in fun and educational arts activities. COUNSELORS IN TRAINING - Leadership Development Program (Unpaid - Fee $125.00) - 2020 Summer Camps

Beginning Summer 2020, BlackRock Education will host a comprehensive Counselor in Training (CIT) youth leadership program serving its camps, including Arts Journeys, Performing Arts, Multi-Arts and Ballet. The new BlackRock Counselor in Training Program is closely aligned with the National Youth Leadership Council’s K-12 Service-Learning Standards for Quality Practice. Qualified CITs must be at least fourteen through sixteen years of age with an interest and passion for the arts, visual arts, performing arts, education, and working with youth. Interested participants will serve as mentors, role models, and engaged leaders in every facet of summer camp at BlackRock Center for the Arts. This is the perfect opportunity for youth seeking future endeavors or employment at BlackRock, or for those that share passion for the arts and education. JUNIOR COUNSELORS - 2020 Summer Camps

Supervise a group of approximately 12 campers and participate in all daily camp activities. Identify and meet the needs of campers to ensure a safe, positive and educational experience for each child. Keep campers engaged and entertained by demonstrating enthusiasm for all aspects of the camp program, including dance, music, theater, and visual art activities. Act as a positive role model for campers. Preserve the BlackRock Center image through positive interactions with parents, visitors, guests and others. Assist with set-up and clean-up. Supervise lunch time and free time of campers, assist with car-pool arrival and dismissal times. Supervise after care students, responsible planning after care activities. Participate in camp staff meetings and trainings. Prior work experience working with youth and experience in arts education. TEACHING ARTISTS - 2020 Summer Camps

Develop plans, projects/activities/routines, and lead the implementation of plans with campers to produce a final product supporting the the Multi-Arts and Teen Arts programs listed below. Must possess teaching experience and hold credentials in the area of expertise/art form.

  • Musical Performance: Teens Got Talent: Teen Camp - August 3 - August 7
  • Acting & Improv: So. Much. Drama. Teen Camp - August 10 - August 14
  • S.T.E.A.M.: Teen Camp - August 17 - August 21
  • Music & Dance: Multi-Arts Camp (Grades K-5) - August 3rd - August 21

YEAR-ROUND TEACHING ARTISTS (All arts disciplines)

BlackRock Center for the Arts engages the community to explore, experience and celebrate the arts. BlackRock is currently seeking talented, motivated and experienced teaching artists for a variety of art classes for students of all ages.

Major Purpose of this Job: BlackRock teaching artists demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of curriculum in the subject field and are able to generate enthusiasm for artistic learning and positive professional relationships with students.

Education, Experience, Knowledge, and Skill Requirements

  • High school degree or equivalent; Associate’s degree preferred
  • Extensive experience in one or more artistic genres
  • Two or more years’ experience teaching one or more genres of dance, theater, music/instrumental instruction and/or visual art
  • Prove the ability to work in a team-based environment
  • Demonstrate the ability to be organized and adaptable
  • Very strong classroom management skills
  • Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills with strong problem-solving experience
