Maria Elena Sayan Lazarte, professionally known as Mita Lazarte

Mita is a self-taught artist focusing primarily on painting plein air landscapes, flowers, and still-life. Having painted the majority of her life, Mita first got her inspiration from the beautiful landscapes, turquoise lakes, and picturesque white mountain caps surrounding her hometown of Caraz, Ancash, Peru, located in the Andes Mountains of South America.

Throughout years of full-time work and raising her children, Mita always found time for her passions of painting and teaching. More recently in the past few years, Mita has been challenging herself to improve by participating in painting courses online and at The Yellow Barn Studio and Gallery at Glen Echo Park. As a member of the Montgomery Art Association, Mita showcases her paintings at association events and recently won first place for viewer’s choice award at the 2019 and 2020 Oasis Show.
