“Crys Matthews is a necessary voice. Her depth coupled with her openness and approachability was unmatched. She has a spark that is contagious and shares music that unites us and makes us think.” – Viviana Benitez, Associate Producer at Lincoln Center and 2017 NewSong judge
Crys Matthews brings her eclectic infusion of Americana, jazz, folk, blues, bluegrass, and funk to BlackRock for a performance steeped with traditional melodies and profound lyricism. Compared to the likes of Toshi Reagon and Ruthie Foster, Matthews’ unique mix of genres has won her accolades at the 2013, 2014, and 2017 Mid-Atlantic Song Contest as well as extensive radio play from Woman of Substance radio, WTJU-Charlottesville, WMRA-Harrisonburg, and even KBOO-Portland.
After the show, please join us for a Q&A with the artist, moderated by Senator Cheryl Kagan. In addition to representing Gaithersburg and Rockville in Annapolis, Sen. Kagan is deeply connected to the music community, and has hosted Crys Matthews at both her “Folk ‘N Great Music” house concert series in Rockville, and at her annual “UnNaugural Concert.”
This engagement of Crys Matthews is funded through the Mid Atlantic Tours program of Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation with support from the National Endowment for the Arts.
