WINTER DANCE CLASSES

Dance Attire

All seasonal dance class students should wear comfortably clothes that allow for easy movement to class. This can include dancewear, athleisure wear, sweats, or shorts and a t-shirt unless otherwise noted.
Ballet: Girls: Solid color leotard, tights, ballet slippers; Guys: White t-shit, black shorts, ballet shoes

Jazz: Athleisure or dancewear and jazz shoes
Hip Hop: Fitness clothes, clean sneakers or jazz shoes
Kuchipudi: Barefeet
Little Belles: Barefeet with tights and a loose t-shirt
Synergy Dance Fitness: Fitness clothes, sneakers
West African Dance: Fitness or dance clothes and a lapa (large piece of African fabric wrapped around the waist) if available

Jazz
Learn the stylized, expressive, and syncopated qualities of jazz dance. Students will learn the fundamentals of jazz, including rhythm, movement, isolations, stretching, and more.  Footwork, turns, and leaps will be introduced as students explore this popular dance style.  During the final class, students will demonstrate choreography for family and friends.

Hip Hop Kidz
Get moving in this fun and high-energy class where students will explore the world of Hip Hop dance.  Students will learn current and innovative Hip Hop moves and choreography, play dance games and have fun while developing rhythm, coordination, range of movement, creativity, and musicality.  All music and moves are kid-friendly and age appropriate.  The final class will culminate in a demonstration open to family and friends.

Hip Hop Youth
Learn the fundamentals and art of Hip Hop in this fun and energetic classes.  Students will spend time exploring rhythm, body isolations, popping, funk, basic break dance moves and innovative choreography.  Your student is sure have fun as they are exposed to great music and learn some exciting moves.  You are sure to be impressed when students share their skills with friends and family at the end of the session.

Hip Hop Jam for Adults
This is a class where bringing your own individual style and personality is encouraged. Students will learn the latest Hip Hop moves incorporated in exciting choreography, matched with popular music of today. New choreography is taught every two weeks so the class is always fresh and students are constantly learning.  Students will learn half of the choreography to a song one week, then review and finish the song on the second week.  Once the choreography is complete, dancers will have the option of joining in a dance video recording of that choreography.  Being a part of the recording is completely optional and is just a fun element to capture the dances that students have worked on throughout the season.  Once a dance is complete, then new choreography will begin the next week and so on.  This fun, high energy class is sure to increase both fitness and swag!

Little bells is perfect for kids just starting to get a grasp on movement. This enlightening dance class will help teach your child movement, dance, rhythm, and how to move to the beat all while learning about the Indian classical dance form, Kuchipudi.

Join this class now to explore the Indian classical dance form, Kuchipudi, along with the flavors of Indian performing arts and authentic beats of music. This class will be a work out as well and will provide you with the background and technique needed to understand classical dance. West African Dance
This class is presented through a partnership with Soul in Motion Players, Inc.
With live drumming, this high energy class will teach you the fundamentals of traditional West African dance with an emphasis on understanding the accompanying drum rhythms. Come and explore this vibrant, expressive and exciting style of dance.  This class is taught at the same time as our West African Drumming class, so students will enjoy being accompanied by live drumming.  It’s suggested that dance students wear a traditional lapa for the class. A lapa is a large piece of African fabric that is wrapped around the waist of the dancer.

Intermediate Jitterbug and Lindy Hop

Building on the presented in the beginner level, you’ll expand your vocabulary with a variety of six-count, eight-count and Charleston patterns, ranging from material that’s easy to use on the social dance floor to flashier moves that are sure to wow onlookers. You’ll also work on developing your skill level to add to your enjoyment on the dance floor.

Synergy Dance Fitness
Synergy Dance Fitness is a high energy fitness based dance class which features a fusion of Hip Hop, Latin, African, Reggae, Indian, and other international music and dance styles in fun, easy to pick up routines which will get your heart pumping.

All fitness levels are welcome and routines can be modified to fit the needs of the student whether you are looking for an intense high impact workout or a lower impact class. Conservatory

Dance Conservatory
The dance conservatory provides focused year-long study for students of all ages. We encourage students and families to read each course description carefully to find the best fit for the year. The price of all conservatory dance classes include a non-refundable $52 costume fee for the Spring Conservatory Recital which will be selected by the instructor. All conservatory classes culminate in our Spring Conservatory Recital.

Conservatory Dance Attire
Girls: Black leotard, pink tights, pink ballet slippers, hair in a bun if applicable. No skirts, tutus or jewelry.
Boys: White t-shirt, black tights with black ballet shoes or black dance shorts with white socks and black ballet shoes.
Adult Class: Instructor’s discretion. Please use the above attire as a guide.

Pre-Ballet
This is a great introductory course for our youngest students interested in developing a strong foundation in ballet. Students learn the basics through exercises, games and dances to develop coordination, musicality, creativity and motor skills. Students must be able to attend class without a caregiver present.

Young Artists Ballet (YAB)
YAB is based on the internationally recognized methodology of the Royal Academy of Dance. The Academy’s syllabi have been devised with great care to enable a child to progress through their dance training in planned stages to insure safety of physical development and well-being. Teachers adhere to the carefully structured syllabi and continue to train through the Academy’s professional development courses throughout their teaching careers. All Young Artists Ballet classes are taught by Ms. Becci Kimm, who has achieved lifetime membership to the Royal Academy of Ballet.

Students must have at least two years of previous training or by permission from instructor. The class will introduce many more steps both at the barre and in the center.  Combining several steps in one exercise (amalgamation) will be done across the floor.  More intricate musical patterns will be introduced in the center and students will begin to learn the meaning of all terminology of steps.

This class is for fifth year students or by permission from instructor. This level increases the difficulty of exercises at the barre in order to strengthen body alignment and proper use of the feet and legs. More concentration will be given executing demi pointe work both at the barre and in the center practice. The center will include adagio work and pirouettes. Simple petite and grand allegro will be expanded as well as terminology. Knowing the methodology of each step is an important part of developing as a student.

Young Artists Ballet: Level 5
This class is for students with at least six years previous training in ballet or by permission from instructor. This level is an extension of Level 5 and demonstrates semi-advanced barre work stressing body alignment, technique, and articulation of feet.  Depending on the age of the student and strength of their feet and legs, pointe work will be introduced at the barre.  The center practice incorporates adagio, pirouettes, petite and grande allegro, and beginning beaten enchainments.  Strongly advised that students take both session.

Young Artists Ballet: Level 6
This class is for students with at least seven years previous training in ballet or by permissions from instructor. Dancers must be attending class two times per week and posess a strong sense of technique, knowledge of steps and terminology.  Instruction will concentrate on more demanding exercises, both at the barre and center, grande allegro, petite batterie, and pointe work.
