The safety and well-being of our campers, staff, and community are our top priority. BlackRock meets regularly to discuss the impact of the coronavirus taking into consideration federal, state, and local orders, guidelines, and recommendations. We are closely following guidance from the CDC regarding summer camps. Please check this page as it is updated frequently. 


Please read below in terms of how we are doing to keep our space, community, and staff safe! 


Camp Structure

  • Limited Overall Enrollment 

  • Smaller Camp Groups (Max 8 campers/group) 

  • Plenty of Outdoor Time (with tent coverings and cooling stations)


  • Completed daily health attestation form

  • Checked daily for temperature and covid-related symptoms  

  • Double face masks and physical distancing of 6' required at all times 

  • Individual Art & Activity Supplies 

  • Mandatory Bring Your Own Lunch, Water, Sunscreen, and Other Supplies

  • Mandatory Sanitizing/Handwashing for Campers & Staff

Camp Staff 

  • Trained in cleaning, check-in, and monitoring policies and procedures  

  • Checked daily for temperature and covid-related symptoms  

  • Double face masks and physical distancing of 6' required at all times 

  • Weekly Covid-19 testing for all in-person staff 


  • Separate Pick-up/Drop-Off Locations

  • Implementation of CDC-recommended cleaning protocols and sanitation practices  

  • Updated entrances and exits to ensure safe flow of traffic

Is BlackRock providing in-person summer camps?   

Yes, BlackRock is hosting in-person summer camps with limited capacity and strict safety measures. Please view our Camp Policy and Procedures page for more details. Every camper, camp staff member, and BlackRock staff member is required to complete our COVID Disclosure and Waiver Form at the start of each day. 

What is BlackRock doing to ensure a safe environment? 

We work closely with local health experts and officials in developing and implementing plans that incorporate recommended health, cleanliness, and safety guidelines.   

  • All campers and camp staff will have their temperature checked at the building entrance. No one with a temperature of 100.4 degrees or higher will be allowed to enter BlackRock or participate in an outdoor class.   

  • All campers and camp staff will be required to wear a face mask that covers both the nose and the mouth. If you refuse to wear a mask, you will not be allowed to attend the camp, and your tuition will not be refunded.   

  • All campers and camp staff must agree to abide by social-distancing guidelines and to follow the directions of BlackRock Staff when in lines while entering the building lobby, BlackBox Theater, MainStage Theater, elevator, restrooms, and front lawn.  

  • All campers and camp staff must follow all posted instructions and verbal directions of BlackRock Staff while they are on BlackRock’s property.  

We cannot absolutely guarantee that you will not be exposed to COVID-19 while at BlackRock. Please be aware that the risk of such exposure exists in any public place or large gathering.  

Is the rest of the BlackRock facility open to the public?

No. Only a limited number of staff, Upcounty Hub at BlackRock volunteers, teaching artists, campers, and camp staff are allowed into the building. They undergo daily mandatory temperature checks and are required to practice physical distancing and wear masks or facial coverings in all public or common areas.  

What will happen if there is a confirmed case of COVID-19 for either a camper or camp staff?

BlackRock will handle the situation on a case-by-case basis. We will contact the Maryland Department of Health, follow CDC Guidelines for Camps and Recreation, and work with our Camp Director and Camp Health Supervisor to communicate and implement the next steps. ​

If camp is closed temporarily due to COVID, will refunds be issued? 

BlackRock reserves the right to cancel in-person classes due to confirmed cases, an increase in overall positive cases across the county, the spread of the new, more contagious strain, or any other covid-related issue. Should

the camp be canceled prior to the end of a session, a virtual option may be made available. If no virtual option is provided, pro-rated credits will be issued. Families will have 12 months to apply the credit to a future BlackRock camp or class. No refunds will be issued.
