Backstage with Shen Yun:
Intro to Beyond the Notes
When you are first learning the music notes for piano or any other musical instrument you will want to practice reading lots of easy music to get your note-reading reflexes sharp. In the early stages of learning how to read music or how to sight read music the act of identifying notes is the first hurdle to cross. Once you know the notes of the treble and bass clef, I highly recommend you get a great book for sight reading.

Meet the child genius who became world’s youngest orchestra conductor at 11
At just 11 years old, Matthew Smith could play four instruments. He could play the guitar, drums, piano and viola. But what brought the child music prodigy to the limelight was when he led Nottingham Symphony Orchestra’s performance of Johann Strauss’s Die Fledermaus in April 2017. This made him the world’s youngest conductor ever to take to a professional stage in Britain.

History of Drums
The drum is a musical instrument that has been around for thousands of years. It is still one of the most popular parts of music today. Drums have been found in China which date back to ancient times. The drums were often used in religious rituals or ceremonies. Cymbals are typically made of metal and used to make a dinging or tinkling sound. They were originally made in ancient Turkey or China, but were also used in Israel and Egypt. Sri Lankan history shows that drums were once used as a form of communication between cities or tribes. The pattern or tone of a drum beat might mean a variety of messages.

We love this classic with a go-go spin!
The Gogo Pokey puts a new spin on an old classic. Filled with infectious and danceable melodies, this song will have children and their parents groovin’ all day long.
One lone cow (whose voice sounds decidedly like a cello) sings the “Going Home” theme from Dvořák’s New World Symphony. A pig and then a chicken are inspired to join in from afar. A heartfelt small collaboration, created by Yo-Yo Ma and Sandra Boynton for Ma’s #SongsOfComfort which he began online in March 2020 as a way to offer solace to all.
