The Germantown, MD artist will deliver brief remarks at 3:00pm and be on hand to answer questions about her work throughout the event. Boocks will return to BlackRock on Saturday, August 26 at 12:00pm to present an Artist Talk & Tour focused on her creative process and techniques.
In atmospheric works that incorporate text, Lori Anne Boocks builds layers of memories into abstract paintings using acrylic and charcoal. The local artist is a keeper of stories told by family, friends, and acquaintances. Boocks allows stories to influence her palette and mark making, as she embeds hidden story fragments using legible and illegible words as she represents the feeling of a story she remembers. She transforms each piece, adding texture and washes of color, then partially removes the pigment in areas using her hands or cloth. The physical process represents layers of experiencing, remembering, forgetting, discovery and rediscovery. Boocks’ paintings have the appearance of having been excavated after a long period of being buried. In the same way we might dig up personal memories, her work invites viewers to take time to reflect upon our own stories. To learn more about the artist, visit:
