Free, Summer Concerts | Saturday, Jul 11, 2015 | 7:00 PM | $Free
It’s Brazilian Carnival in the Appalachian Mountains! Drawing on Northeastern Brazil’s folkloric rhythms like forró, maracatu, or coco, and on deep Americana—from bluegrass to spirituals to swampy Louisiana jams—Matuto (a Northeastern Brazilian slang term for “bumpkin”) uses unexpected Pan-American sounds to craft appealing, fun and rootsy music. The result? Rolling drums and quicksilver accordion licks, earthy vibes and thoughtful reflections mingle on the latest refinement of their Appalachia-gone-Afro-Brazilian sound. We dare you to resist moving to the bubbling Brazilian backbeats, Appalachian melodies, and bluesy riffs.
All Summer Concerts will be performed on the BlackRock front lawn, weather permitting. In the case of inclement weather, the concert will move inside to the BlackRock Mainstage. Follow us on Facebook and Twitter for the up-to-date performance information. Tickets are not required, but RSVPs are recommended to be the in-the-know about updates and weather decisions.
All Summer Concerts are free, but BlackRock incurs hefty expenses to keep the beloved concert series going, including artist fees, overhead, and technical costs. Any donation you can give is welcome and super helpful in offsetting some of the financial limitations of putting on these amazing outdoor shows. Thanks in advance!
