Registration Policies
For Spring Classes:
Signing and submitting a registration form and payment of class fees implies acceptance of ALL policies as stated.
Registration: All registrations are processed in the order received. Online registrations at www.blackrockcenter.org are confirmed immediately. Registrations may be hand delivered 10:00–8:00 Monday–Friday, OR may be mailed to: BlackRock Center for the Arts, 12901 Town Commons Dr., Germantown, MD 20874. Early registration deadline is March 27. Registrations after that date are subject to a $10 late fee.
Yearlong Registrations: Invoices must be paid by to hold your spot in the class. Students whose invoices have not been paid by March 3 will be un-enrolled from the class and can register starting March 5.
Registration Confirmation: Confirmations will be e-mailed for class registrations. Waiting lists will be set up for classes at maximum enrollment and you will be notified when space becomes available.
Payment: Full payment, by cash, check or credit card, is due when submitting registration form. Checks and money orders should be made payable to “BlackRock Center for the Arts” and must include name, address, home and work telephone numbers, and participant’s full name. There is a $25 charge for returned checks. VISA, MasterCard, AmEx and Discover payments are accepted.
Materials Fee: Students in adult and teen classes are responsible for their own supplies; a list of supplies will be available at the first class. There is a materials fee for all children’s visual art classes; see specific classes for details.
Class Cancellations: BlackRock reserves the right to cancel a class for any reason. In the event BlackRock must cancel a class, full refund of tuition is guaranteed. Enroll early, so we have enough registrations to avoid possible cancellation.
Class Credits and Refunds: Requests for withdrawal from any class must be submitted via email to info@blackrockcenter.org. The request must include the student’s name, payer’s name, address and phone number, class name and reason for withdrawal. If your request is received more than two weeks before the start date of the class, you will receive a refund of the tuition paid, less a $25 processing fee. If notice is received within two weeks of the class start date, a $50 processing fee will be assessed per participant per class. Classes missed by students cannot be rescheduled or refunded. During the first two weeks of class, a prorated refund or tuition credit valid for one year toward a future class or camp program may be issued. No refunds or credits will be made after the second week of class.
General Information
Parent/Guardian Supervision: Parents/guardians are responsible for supervising children in the BlackRock building outside of class time. Instructors and BlackRock staff are NOT responsible for students before or after scheduled classes. Students are not allowed in any classroom or theater without an instructor present. Children are not permitted in adult classes and adults are not permitted in children’s classes, even as observers, except as otherwise noted.
Late Pick-Up: Parents may be assessed a $10 late charge if a child is picked up more than 15 minutes after class ends. An additional $1 per minute charge will accrue for any time thereafter. Students who are consistently picked up late may be charged the fee after 5 minutes past the ending time of the class.
Liability: BlackRock is not liable for the loss of property or the loss of artwork belonging to the students. Due to limited storage, any artwork left after the session has ended may be discarded by staff.
Medications: BlackRock staff will not administer medications.
Student Conduct: BlackRock does not discriminate on the basis of color, race, ethnic or national group, gender, sexual orientation or disability. BlackRock expects all students and visitors to treat others in a respectful manner and reserves the right to take appropriate action in support of this policy. BlackRock also reserves the right to ask any student to withdraw if he or she is disruptive to the class or interferes with the safety of others. In this case, there will be no refund issued.
Inclement Weather Policy: BlackRock does not follow MCPS school closings and delayed openings. We will provide information on our website (www.blackrockcenter.org) and a voice message at 301.528.2260 x1032. Classes canceled because of inclement weather will be made up, when possible.
Make-up Classes and Attendance: We do NOT offer make-up classes for students who miss class due to sickness, vacation or other circumstances.
