BlackRock Open House 2017 Recap

by JoAnn Pham

BlackRock’s annual Open House was held on Saturday, August 26 this year. It was my first time planning and attending the Open House since I came on board in November of last year, and when the staff says that it’s one of our biggest community events of the year, boy, they weren’t kidding! We had a scavenger hunt exploring BlackRock’s spacious and airy building, while live performances by Soul in Motion demonstrated our fall African Drumming classes and Kudipuchi Dance Academy  showcased their classical Indian dances.  We had other fabulous instructors such as Karen Ebert, Monique Watson, Fernando Naranjo and Callan Holderbaum teaching sample classes (for all) ages of Fairy Tale Theater, Hip Hop, Latin Dance and Improv Comedy.

To top it all off, we had arts and crafts in every corner of the building, artist talks and tours of our galleries, face-painting and even special treats by local Geppetto Catering offering fresh peach cobbler in beautiful our rooftop studio. It was so wonderful to see so many familiar faces at Open House this year, but one of my favorite parts was meeting all of the new friends and neighbors just discovering BlackRock for the first time.  We had nearly 300 visitors pass through our doors for Open House this year!  Whether it is your first or fifteenth visit to BlackRock, we welcome our friends, new and old, and hope to see you back at BlackRock this 15th Anniversary Season to explore everything we have to offer.
