Volunteer Spotlight May 2017: Margie Quelet

Occupation: (Your current or previous – as many details as you’d like to share)

I am a retired MCPS teacher.

Volunteer Hours: (How many hours have you volunteered so far?  How many hours do you volunteer per week?)

I have volunteered at BlackRock since 2003, when it first opened – nearly 15 years.  Mainly, I was a volunteer for all the monthly art receptions.  I picked up the food, displayed it on tables, served it and then cleaned up.  I enjoy all the wonderful volunteers and friends that helped me.  I have also worked on the annual galas – served on its committee, solicited and obtained silent and live auction items, arranged flowers for centerpieces, and set up tables.

Why did you want to volunteer at BlackRock?

Faith Schmidt, a long-time BlackRock volunteer, gave me a speech that inspired me to volunteer at BlackRock.

What is your favorite moment as a volunteer?

I love meeting the artists and learning about their work.  I have always enjoyed the shows and my grandchildren took classes at BlackRock. In 2010, I won Volunteer of the Year at BlackRock and felt very privileged and honored.

What does volunteering at BlackRock mean to you?

Volunteering at BlackRock allows me to meet many different unique and wonderful people who love the arts.Facebooktwittergoogle_plusredditpinterestlinkedin
